How I dread Father's day every year. Being a father, there is no worse time than going to church on Father's day. Being a mother, there is no better time than going to church on Mother's day. Why? If you are a mother, you will get all the praises you want to hear on Mother's day. If you are a father, you will surely get all the advises on how you can be a better father on Father's day.
Isn't it strange that fathers get all the beatings nowadays. In the Hollywood, the father is always the dumb, incompetent, stubborn, out of date, out of fashion, out of touch, absent parent, and always making the wrong decision in every turn of their lives. The church seems to enjoy jumping on the same bandwagon and bash at the fathers ... of course doing it in a much more gentler way (at least on the surface)! They are always the ones who need to spend more time with the children, be the spiritual leader in the house, help in the household chores, give more to the church and missions, etc. etc. The mothers are always the perfect ones.
No wonder in almost every church I visited, there are more women than man. No wonder more and more men are finding church irrelevant. No wonder more and more pastors (usually male) are being exposed of having committed adultery ... they don't even believe what they preach. It is time to wake up church!
Men need to rise up, no doubt about it. But they want to do it their way. They want to be respected, they want to be whom God wants them to be, the manly king that God has created them to be, not what the church wants them to be. Unfortunately, most of the time, the church thinks she knows what God wants.
